    摘要:

Technology has changed the way we communicate, the way we live and the way we travel. On February 3, 2014, the U.S. DOT’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) made a decision to move forward with vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications technology for light vehicles. It is anticipated that the NHTSA decision will accelerate the deployment of V2V, vehicle to infrastructure (V2I), and vehicle to nomadic devices (V2X) applications. Connected vehicles will likely help reduce crashes and energy consumption, and improve mobility and air quality. Vehicle automation has emerged as a new approach, offering similar benefits. For example, level 1&2 automated vehicles are already on the market, with self-parking, adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and collision warning systems in place. Connected and automated vehicle technologies offer the possibility of profoundly changing transportation. This presentation attempts to summarize problems, challenges and opportunities that are associated with connected and automated vehicle technologies, elaborate the relationships between connected and automated vehicle technologies, and discuss the impact of connected and automated vehicle technologies on the future transportation research and development.
